David Cope papers, 1972- .

Collection includes: correspondence, consisting of letters, some enclosing manuscripts and ephemera, from poets Antler, Jeff Poniewaz, Robert Creeley, Allen Ginsberg, Carl Rakosi and an extensive series from Jim Cohn, to name a few. Topics largely concern the writing and study of poetry, especially Cope's association with the poets of the Beat Generation, and the Objectivists. Also included are drafts of poems, including the working manuscripts and page proofs for On the Bridge, Fragments From the Stars, and his anthology, Nada Poems, and other poems; material related to essays on Allen Ginsberg, a study of Marsden Hartley, and others; manuscripts submitted for publication in Cope's literary magazine, Big Scream, and related correspondence. Academic notebooks, syllabi, and other teaching materials from Grand Rapids Community College and Naropa University are part of the collection. A small series of photographs and several videotapes documenting poetry readings given by Cope round out the collection. Print items such as issues of Big Scream, published books of poetry, and serials containing works by or about Cope have been cataloged separately.
